Re: Kickstarter tiers
Because the ships are so permanent and pre-made in the world, being able to create a ship or other vehicle would be quite the fun idea, as you would know that lots of people would be using it.
As for the NPC stuff, I just came from a new topic that was talking about how AI was not going to be an actual contruct but instead a program that you carried around with you (think Cortana) that could help you hack things or drive your vehicle, there was talk about them going into a robot body but it would make sense for them all to look the same, so I don't think NPC stuff is going to be as attractive on this large of scale.
The Planet thing would also be very enticing as you could help put fun little easter eggs into the planet design and everybody playing it would, at one time or another, come across your personal planet.
Lunch with the devs might be a bit hard, but still a possibility, it would have to be a very limited amount of that tier though, for the sake of productivity, and out of respect of the devs and their time.
As for the limited edition starter ship, I personally don't see the point of having this as a reward, either it gives you a better chance at the beginning, which kind of ruins early game survival, or it gives you a cosmetic effect, which only would appeal to some people.

Haha Marko .
I think that since that as Overwatch said, designing your own ship, vehicle etc. would definitely be a cool tier.
And naming the generel encyclopedia Wikipedia would be wicked too

Re: Kickstarter tiers
We could offer you the opportunity to design your own ships/outpost stations or NPC's, but it would have to be under the condition that these designs are relayed to a concept artist to design based off your original ideas, of course the style of the game has to be kept universal if you know what I mean.
Having an NPC in your likeness would be dead easy, all we'd need is passport like photographs of your front and side face portrait. I suppose he could take your name too (or a more space version of your name) If everyone has names like Vaxoth and Gylon (bad examples) it's a bit wired to suddenly come across ....Norman and Bob.
Please do post Kickstarter rewards that YOU would like to receive, this is something that we are discussing in a future meeting closing into September.
WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT! =D

I'd love to design my own ship, outpost station, or gun, just saying. :-) I wish I knew more coding, I've wanted a game like this since forever. :-P
On another note, for low tier rewards, what about unique outfits or ship/vehicle "Stickers"?

Was also thinking today, what about along with the NPC creation, could you include voice acting your own character? don't know if you guys are planning on a text based NPC control system or something more sophisticated, but just an idea.
Also, if "player owned stations" are an option, maybe helping design components? with the same restriction as above. (im thinking something along the lines of skyrims house building, something where you have options, but in the end its built for you. some sort of Modular Design)

I am really liking the idea of a separate starter ship. Or maybe a better start off weapon. You could also give game credits based on the tier. Or maybe even acces to an undiscovered system that only pre orderers could go to!

Re: Kickstarter tiers
Not really keen on what amounts basically to cheat codes or exclusive gameplay content as kickstarter rewards - first, it seems such a waste to design a specific item only to have it not be accessible for a majority of the players. That type of crud should stay in the envy-based MMO hellholes that spawned the idea in the first place.
As far as cheats/"better starting conditions" go, it screws with the balancing, and alienates new players and latecomers even more.
What I would like to see is some visual designation for the early backers - some kind of uniform badge, decal or nose art for a ship. For the higher up tiers, I see "name/design an item/vehicle/animal/NPC/landmark/moon/planet" working, but would require the items and names to be approved by the devs.
Things like vanity pets again are straddling the fence - things like getting a shipboard cat are enticing, but if the only means of getting one are limited to paying a ridiculous amount of cash for an unfinished game with no chance of ever getting the moggie somewhere else, I'd rather see it not implemented. Getting a "special" skin for said cat (or drone, cute fuzzy alien life form, or whatever) as backer bonus sounds more acceptable.
And then, of course, there's early alpha/beta access, which always seems to be a rather coveted tier reward.

Re: Kickstarter tiers
I think that anything that is only accessible to backers makes sense only if it doesn't affect the game for non backers, for example, a hat, or skin choice. that way, anyone who didn't get the opportunity to back the project isn't left out. Id like everyone who joins the game to be on an even starting field, It's a survival game anyway, it takes away from the fun when you have an overpowered gun. lol
PS: love the idea of a ship "Pet" lol, since full on NPCs might be a little excessive due to ship size constraints, it would be funny to find the cat in the engine room ductwork or something, chewing on powercords.

Re: Kickstarter tiers
Haha yea Airsofter i agree, there definatley won't be any "pay to win" options as this is something we simply don't agree with. In terms of customisable ships it is something that alot of people are asking for but currently it is not on our list of things to get done, maybe at some point down the road we can introduce more features where it is concerned but at the moment you will be limited to customisation of colours ect.

Re: Kickstarter tiers
if there is a kick starter reward for items, make sure that they are purchasable in game with game cash, but anyone that could pledge to a reward can 'unlock' it at the start or get a discount for that item in game (may be as low as 10% discount to get that megafreightersuperstardestroyerdreadnoughtthingy, rover or companion)
things i would like to see is...
-myself as a companion or npc character
-steampunk'ish equipment
-place name or similar
-feline humanoid race (intelligent or otherwise)
-the best damm game in the 'verse

Re: Kickstarter tiers
We're not planning on implementing any sort of micro transactions into Wayfarer at the moment, so anything that utilizing such a facility is not feasible as a kick starter reward.

Re: Kickstarter tiers
It is something we would definitely do if there was enough interest gathered, but it would probably be a special edition boxed set or something similar. But if alot of people were adverse to downloading then it might be an option for us.

Re: Kickstarter tiers
I would definitively be interested in backing at a higher level if a "design" your own whatever or voice act a character or name a character or something was offered. Granted I'm backing as high as I can afford as soon as kickstarter hits, but you might be able to squeeze some more $$ out of me for something really cool like that (just don't tell my wife). The voice acting idea might even save you guys some money, but you would have to specify requirements for quality.
On the designing your own ship/planet/whatever idea, from my perspective, I would like to give you devs a concept, and let you base something off of it. for example, i draw up something, then you fit it to your needs, but I get to name it or something. (just me rambling.)
