Overall, what will combat be like?

Will there be encounters of space pirates and innocent cargo ships, along with other types of factions?

Can you choose who to fight, no matter who they are, and still gain a profit from doing so?

Will there be damage that the player has to repair, whether inflicted on the ship or the players themselves?
^{-For example, if your ship gets shot up will you have the option to repair it while in space or landed on the ground or would you have to visit a special facility such as a space station?
-If the player is shot, will the operation be done by the players? "save your buddies life my dragging him back to the ship to be operated on after a shoot-out"}

If there are other groups existing with or against you, will you gain notoriety by attacking them? Consequences to your actions?

from what I have read on the forums yes there will be more then one faction and doing one thing to help one faction may harm your reputation with another. I assume that you will be able to gain a profit no matter what you do as long as you do something with that frame of mind yes from what they have said you will have to repair and maintain your ship and upgrade it you will more then likely have to land for major repairs there will also be a med bay for player based injuries I am not exactly sure on this but I am pretty sure most of the info I just gave is correct

Agreed. Each planet has it's own set of NPC's / creatures both friendly and aggressive. Every space area also has it's own set of space enemies. We do have factions yes.

It is entirely up to you whether you decide to engage any ships you might find, run or let them pass by. However some factions will attack on site.

To add to this, where present, CWC patrollers / enforcers will not take kindly to you attacking innocent civilian ships. Although your free to do as you wish, I doubt you'd score much loot off a civvy transporter tho. Mind you, you may be able to board a civvy transporter after alpha and hold everyone at gunpoint and get some dollah!
