well it's technically tomorrow where i live and i just can't stop myself asking all these questions! what sort of planetary environments can we expect to encounter in the stoddarian sector? barren terrestrials? icy rocks? ocean worlds? gas giants? ... pizza planets?

and will gravity vary from planet to planet(or moon)?

Yes each planet offers a completely unique environment with varying climates, weather systems and day and night cycles.

In this way each planet creates a different survival experience and spending the night on one planet might not be the same as others Very Happy

For example Vath composes of acid lakes and huge pillars of rock and earth, it also rains acid forcing the player to either take cover under rocks and canyons or try to make it back to the ship, which can also take damage if the correct measures are not taken.

what sort of incentive would there be for going to such a hostile environment, other than "hey let's go to this awesome planet that rains acid?"

Due to vath's acidic nature large numbers of crystals can be found around and underneath its surface, there are many crystals to find each have specific and unique properties and can be used in a variety of ways.

They are more about containing unique properties than changing physical stats or attributes of a item. For an example an ice crystal could be placed in a gun to change the ammo type or it could be placed in the engines to keep them cooler and improve performance.

Each crystal is unique and some are much rarer than others but the best ones are on Vath Very Happy

Going on bit from this topic will each of the planets have it's own ecosystem of plants and animal life and will you be able to capture or use any of them, for example as in a big game hunt.

we are planning on having a few small settlements that have been established on certain planets, as for aliens we don't want to reveal that information yet ! Very Happy

Random idea for aliens- make them have their own language, use some sort of simple letter swapping code, so you would have to actually "interpret" their language. Nothing weirder then being the first to encounter an alien species and them speak English... Granted the voice acting for that would be weird..... just a thought

Nice idea  Cool maybe you would need to build or find a universal language translator or Babelfish  Smile, if you had to make a device then some thing like the interface from Captain Blood might work, then again maybe not as hard as that one.
Also to ref a another game in 3030 Deathwar some of the missions were in an alien language and could not be accessed until you had a translator.

I was thinking it would be interesting to have to manually translate it. make it like a command prompt sort of thing. if you type in "Wl blf szev z jfvhg?", it "translates" to "do you have a quest?" using a simple Atbash Cipher. basicly, A=Z,B=Y,C=X and so on. Have it be a small "side quest", but you get something really cool if you figure out the language, including a "linguist achievement". I want something hard to figure out as a completely alien language would have no basis in our thoughts.... haha

Just me throwing out nonsense. lol
